You read that right. Dr. Bassett ("Dr. B") is available by phone for established patients, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That's the kind of doctor Dr. B signed up to be since establishing Lake Oconee Pediatrics with his wife, Dr. Julie, way on back in '06.
And since founding Lake Oconee Pediatrics, our practice has grown to serve over 2000 regular pediatric patients. We see about 100 patients a week, and take care of many visitors to the Lake Oconee area as well.
Our offices are located at 1011 Parkside Commons, near Publix and Parkside Main 8 Theatres. We're right across the street from the steps in front of the theatre.
This website will keep you up to date with office news, events and policies. You can also follow us at our Facebook page, or call the front desk for more information: (706) 454-1210. Please call us or contact us if you have any questions, and thanks for visiting!
We offer complete outpatient pediatric care from birth to 18 years of age, 24-hour call service for established patients and even after-hours office visits or a house-call if the problem calls for it! We are your local pediatric specialists and can handle all common childhood medical needs.
Regular office hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, and Friday from 8:30 to noon. We try to take lunch from noon to 1:00pm. To schedule an appointment, call our regular office number. For well child visits, a parent or the child's main guardian must be present.
We don't want you to wait! Same-day appointments are available for established patients requiring urgent attention. Sick patients are given preferential treatment when appointments are scheduled, and we will do whatever it takes to get an ill child seen as soon as possible.
Unless there's an emergency, you will have no waiting time at all. Patients are usually not given a moment to sit down before being put into a room to be seen! Please make sure to show up for your appointment on time (a little early would be even better) so that you can be seen by Dr. B at (or even before) your appointment time.
Walk-ins for established patients are accepted, however we strongly recommend calling first to make an appointment! Unless very urgent, walk-ins will be asked to wait while pre-scheduled patients are seen. This ensures that everyone is seen in a timely manner.
Generally, we prefer to see all patients in-person - it's just better medicine! Some problems are very difficult to evaluate correctly without being able to physically examine the patient. However, we understand that some situations make it difficult to come in to see us, so we do occasionally see patients via telemedicine. We do this most commonly if the patient is out of town or for Covid-19 concerns. Please note that insurance company fees for telemedicine visits and in-office visits are exactly the same. So if your insurance company requires you to pay a copay for office visits, you will owe that same copay for a telemedicine consultation.
Record requests are usually free, and will be filled in 24 hours. Please do not wait until the day you need paperwork to request it, as we will not fill same-day requests. Multiple-page forms or replacing lost paperwork will incur a $10 fee.
Lake Oconee Pediatrics is a private physician practice, and we see more regular pediatric patients than any other practice in the lake area. To make sure our regular patients are seen immediately, we do not accept patients on a "one-visit" basis, and do not see visitors to the lake area.
If your child is visiting the area and needs to be seen, we recommend calling your child's usual physician for advice. There are also a number of urgent care centers in the area that can handle routine problems.
Established patients are welcome to call us after hours, 24 hours a day for immediate medical advice by calling our regular office number: (706) 454-1210. After regular office hours, a recording will give you instructions on how to leave a message, or how to get in touch with Dr. B immediately for more urgent matters. Please keep in mind that the after-hours phone service is for established patients of Dr. B only! If your child has never seen Dr. B, we cannot give you any medical advice other than where to take your child for evaluation.
We are dedicated to the care of our community's children, night and day. However, we request that the after hours service be used only for urgent problems that cannot wait until the morning. If you have a routine medical question (e.g. diaper rashes, common colds, bug bites, etc) or a question about appointments or billing, please call during regular office hours. Emergencies (i.e. potential loss of life, limb, or eyesight) should also not call the after hours service, but rather first call 911.
We understand that sometimes your schedule may be unpredictable, especially where a child's involved! We do request that cancellations be made at least an hour in advance so that we can offer your appointment to another family.
Patients who arrive late may be asked to wait depending on how busy the office is. Late arrivals for well checks or physicals (i.e. non-urgent visits) may be asked to reschedule for another date.
"No-showing", or skipping an appointment without cancelling, is strongly discouraged! Please call to cancel your appointment in advance. No-showing wastes appointments that could be used by other patients. Repeated no-showing is inconsiderate not only to our staff but also to other families in our community. To discourage this, anyone who no-shows an appointment may incur a charge equal to their copay or $25, whichever is higher. Repeated no-showing may result in discharge from our practice.
Dr. B is a Courtesy Staff member at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Most labs and x-rays we order are performed at this location, and they do a very good job for us! We can, however, order studies at any hospital you desire.
If Dr. B needs to send your child to an emergency department, we usually prefer to use St. Mary's as it's so close to our office. Of course, we'll keep in touch with them to make sure things go smoothly for you.
Due to our rural setting and the limited pediatric services available at local hospitals, Dr. B does not admit patients locally. So if you child is ill enough to require hospitalization, we usually recommend transfer to a larger facility in Athens, Atlanta, Macon or Augusta with more expanded services for pediatric patients.
