OUR SCHEDULE OF SHOTS AND WELL-VISITS

"How often do you see kids for checkups?"

Now THERE is a common question.  So here is our usual schedule of well child exams and immunizations.  This schedule may change, when there are national shortages of certain vaccines, or when new well-care recommendations are made.  See the bottom for explanation of shot abbreviations and more info.

 

Newborn visit at 3-5 days of life 

 

2 week well visit

 

1 month well visit

  • HepB #2 vaccine (first shot usually given at birth)

 

2 month well visit

4 month well visit

NOTE: Generally, we do not see children for checkups after age 18, and recommend they see an Internal Medicine doctor for regular checkups.  We will, however, be happy to see your children after age 18 for minor urgent issues, like sore throats and earaches.



Immunization abbreviations / descriptions: 

 

DTaP: Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (Whooping cough) prevention - need 5 total 

 

Gardasil: Human papilloma virus shot, prevents genital warts and cervical, penile and throat cancer - need 2

 

HepB: Hepatitis B, prevents liver infection by hepatitis B - need 3 

 

HepA: Hepatitis A, prevents liver infection by hepatitis A - need 2 

 

Hib: Haemophilus Influenzae B, prevents brain/blood infections by this bacterium - need 3 

 

IPV: Polio, prevents poliomyelitis - need 4 

 

Menactra: Neisseria meningitidis, prevents brain/blood infections by this bacterium - need 2 

 

MMR: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella prevention - need 2 

 

Prevnar: Streptococcus pneumoniae, prevents brain/blood infections by this bacterium - need 4 

 

Rota: Rotavirus prevention - need 3 

 

TdaP: Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough) booster - need 1 

 

VVX: Varicella or "Chicken Pox" prevention - need 2
